THE CHALLENGE

 In 2017, over 65 million consumers will buy tickets on Eventbrite. As Eventbrite’s marketplacegrows and develops, the company is seeking an experienced Managing Editor to create addictive online content that inspires the curious to live more. The Managing Editor will lead Eventbrite’s content team to accomplishing its mission of bringing the Eventbrite brand to life by uncovering the best things to do and providing a unique perspective on how to explore the world.


Reporting to the Head of Content, the Managing Editor will play a key role in developing and publishing a strategic mix of editorial content, transforming Eventbrite into a consumer influencer and thought leader. The Managing Editor will be responsible for overall supervision of an Associate Editor and whip-smart team of part-time staff writers in nine U.S. markets. Bringing together creative vision and operational excellence, s/he will continually shape the editorial vision, execute expansion into new markets, verticals, and/or mediums, and ensure content is flowing, amusing, and useful.


THE ROLE

A successful candidate will merge creative instinct with business savvy to drive consumer engagement–someone one who thrives taking on big hairy goals, coming up with a creative tactical plan, and making it happen. S/he will have a track record in developing sustainable content operations and driving audience growth through search, social media, email, and other channels. A successful candidate will have a track record in launching high-impact campaigns on a tight budget, collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders in marketing, design, and product, and be obsessed with putting customers first.

YOU WILL

  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Have experience leading an editorial team and managing an editorial calendar, ensuring content ships on time and to brand standards
  • Set standards of quality and ensure all deliverables meet them, including tone and voice, readability benchmarks, SEO keywords, and production efficiencies
  • Identify, hire, and supervise content creators and outside agencies, providing editorial and creative direction
  • Top edit all content
  • Track, optimize, and report on content metrics
  • Collaborate closely with social media, SEO, and product managers to ensure content is meeting goals 
  • Be on top of the latest entertainment and lifestyle trends across the nation and be willing to take calculated risks, test assumptions, and share learnings
  • Find inspiring GIFs, coach team members, make big things happen on a tight budget, and write the occasional article

THE SKILLSET

  • 5+ years of editorial, digital media, or content marketing experience with a national brand or publisher
  • 2+ years of management experience building or working with teams, contractors, and agencies with an emphasis on creative direction
  • Hunger to test and learn, with strong analytical skills and the ability to measure and communicate the success of team output
  • Deep customer empathy, with experience creating content for specific audiences
  • Detail-oriented with outstanding writing and copyediting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to create content and campaigns that are truly evocative, meeting goals and connecting with customers
  • Experience with Wordpress, Trello, and general tech savvy

  • Experience working on or with remote teams
  • Strong subject-matter expertise in events, music, food & drink, or entertainment
