THE CHALLENGE

Eventbrite is a people-first organization. Our goal of building the global platform for live experience relies on the foundation of top talent and strong company culture. Our team is the face of Eventbrite, and we’re charged with finding, attracting, and bringing on the best of the best to drive Eventbrite’s growing business and award-winning culture forward. Hiring the best talent globally is no easy feat. However, we have a talented team who has an inspiring story and mission. Our perfect candidate is someone who can connect that vision and story with top-notch talent.

THE TEAM

We're a people-focused Engineering organization:  the women and men on our team value working together in small teams to solve big problems, supporting an active culture of mentorship and inclusion, and committing themselves to learn new things daily. Pair programming, weekly demos, tech talks, and quarterly hackathons are at the core of how we’ve built our team and product. We believe in engaging with the community, regularly hosting free events with some of the top technical speakers, and actively contributing to open source software. Our technology spans across web, mobile, API, big data, machine learning, search, physical point of sale, and scanning systems.

Our engineering teams own their services and systems end to end from requirements gathering to deployment to maintenance. Team members follow an on-call rotation to ensure any issues are mitigated immediately and root causes are rectified.

THE ROLE

As a Software Engineer in the Listings Team, you’ll have a direct impact on the users purchasing tickets from Eventbrite; you’ll work on the page that the attendee faces before starting the Checkout flow.

You will own the logic that defines how this page will be rendered, which options will the user have and how the user proceeds to the Checkout page to commit the actual purchase. Technically, this involves talking with different services, such as the ones responsible for delivering the price ranges, the event description, or creating the order itself.

You will partner closely with the rest of the Creator and Commerce teams to handle the inventory details, the details of the event provided by different services and the different information shared with the Checkout process.

THE TECH STACK

Our primary stack for our front-end code is written in React. We use libraries such as React Testing Library, Cypress or Storybook.

Most of our back-end code is Python and Django, all running on Amazon AWS with a MySQL database. Some of the other tools that we use are Git, Datadog or Splunk.

THE SKILL SET

  • Demonstrable experience in building applications in a mainstream programming language, ideally Javascript or Python (5+ years in any of them)
  • 3+ years of experience with a web development framework, (we use React for JS and Django for Python)
  • We're not looking for a full-stack person expert in both front-end and back-end, but we expect you to have experience working in both areas (and be willing to do it).
  • You have experience in building responsive web pages using a combination of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript with recent experience in ES6
  • You are willing to work in infrastructure development (we use Terraform) and maintenance of both front-end and back-end code.
  • Efficient, practical programmer with a record of producing maintainable code
  • Ability to take initiative and produce results with great communication and collaboration skills
  • You care about making sure your code is maintainable and well tested.
  • You have a holistic approach to quality.
  • Passion to learn and to mentor others
  • English and Spanish conversational to advanced level

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience in back-end development, ideally with Python or Node.js
  • You have experience designing and developing APIs, both internal service and HTTP APIs
  • Experience using a SQL database: MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc
  • Active Eventbrite user with a passion for live events
