THE CHALLENGE

Last year at Eventbrite organizers created 3 million events and we processed 150 million tickets. Behind all of those tickets and events is a number of teams working together to keep our product scalable and available as we grow.  Our goal is to be the global platform for live experiences.

THE TEAM

We're a people-focused Engineering organization: the women and men on our team value working together in small teams to solve big problems, supporting an active culture of mentorship and inclusion, and committing themselves to learn new things daily. Pair programming, weekly demos, tech talks, and quarterly hackathons are at the core of how we’ve built our team and product. We believe in engaging with the community, regularly hosting free events with some of the top technical speakers, and actively contributing to open source software. Our technology spans across web, mobile, API, big data, machine learning, search, physical point of sale, and scanning systems.

THE ROLE

Join our Consumer engineering team and help make Eventbrite an indispensable platform for finding the best events anywhere in the world.  You'll build products that deeply understand the interests of users so we can re-engage them with the right events at the right time. You'll work directly with Product Management, Product Design, and Data Analysts to get a deep understanding of how our users explore our inventory and you will architect the systems to most effectively satisfy our users’ needs.

THE SKILL SET

  • 3+ years working with search and/or recommendation technology, providing the most relevant and engaging results
  • 3+ years experience as an application or data engineer
  • 5+ years building high performance systems and services
  • Analytical mindset – comfortable asking big questions about the system as a whole, breaking these down into smaller testable hypotheses, and then doing whatever is required to find the answers
  • Familiarity with the basic principles and activities of data science - collecting and cleaning data; extracting and evaluating features; designing, building, and training a model; evaluating restults
  • Unstoppable learner – Initially you may not have all the skills above, but you’re confident that you can learn what you need in very short order
  • Efficient, practical programmer with a record of producing maintainable code
  • Ability to take initiative and produce results with great communication and collaboration skills
  • Passion to learn and to mentor others
  • Desire to work on a highly visible product that impacts millions of users

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience with Elasticsearch and Machine Learning
  • Have worked specifically in an e-commerce or marketplace setting
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and experimentation
