Software Engineer, iOS

Full-time | Nashville | Tennessee | United States

Eventbrite’s business continues to grow year over year and our event creators created more than 3 million events last year alone.  Our goal of building the global platform for live experience relies in part on providing world-class tools for our event organizers to run their events.  As a Principal iOS Engineer on the Organizer App team, you will use your deep iOS domain expertise and understanding of technical architecture to further empower those event creators to seamlessly run their events day in and day out from their mobile devices.

At Eventbrite we tackle tough problems. We learn, grow, and have fun in the process. The women and men of Eventbrite’s Engineering team enjoy facing challenges as individuals, but we are also eager to collaborate and share our knowledge.

Daily collaboration with product stakeholders is at the core of what we do:  Delivering the most value to our event creators through new and improved product feature offerings.  We engage in constant code reviews, maintain a regular release cadence, and work to maintain a high focus on customer needs through on-site visits.  We regularly demonstrate features to internal stakeholders, ensuring that the work we do is delivering value to those who most need it.

You’ll be leading development of business-critical features for our event organizers, focusing mainly on challenges they face while running their event.  You’ll act as a force multiplier within our iOS engineers at Eventbrite, proving out best practices, improving application architecture to best fulfill our mobile strategy, and identifying solutions for long-standing technical debt as well as getting ahead of anomalous code that would become technical debt over time.  This role is instrumental in maintaining the quality of our app while rapidly releasing highly sought-after features to our customers.

The Organizer App is a well-maintained native iOS app authored primarily in modern Swift.  The majority of our app leverages first-party frameworks from Apple such as Foundation, UIKit, and Core Data.  Our reliance on third-party frameworks continues to decrease over time.  We use Carthage for dependency management, Jenkins for CI/CD, and Fastlane (Ruby) for tooling. On the back end, Eventbrite’s primary tech stack is microservice oriented via Python, Django, and MySQL, all running on AWS.

  • We’re looking for someone with around a decade of programming experience in one or more mainstream programming languages with at least five years spent developing natively for iOS.
  • Strong experience in both Swift and Objective-C.  While our app is primarily in Swift, we do on occasion require time spent in Objective-C.
  • A deep understanding of Foundation, UIKit, Core Data, and XCTest.  By and large these tend to be the building blocks for our application.
  • Meaningful experience in a variety of application design patterns and methodologies, both within iOS applications and from the perspective of our API and other services.
  • Previous success in shipping well-developed applications to the Apple App Store.
  • A passion and proven track record in teaching others.  You believe that your knowledge is most valuable when shared with others.  Thoughtful, in-depth code reviews and intensive approach planning are a part of growing your team members.

  • Experience in point-of-sale systems or reporting software.
  • A working understanding of Python, Django, and MySQL alongside Service Oriented Architecture and modern front-end frameworks.
  • Experience with HTTP API design.  When we need an endpoint created, what shape should it take?
  • Familiarity with the Fastlane suite of tools, Ruby, and Jenkins for the sake of devtools and automation.
  • Integration with third-party hardware, both MFi certified via provided frameworks or via Bluetooth or HTTP.
  • Contributions to Swift Programming Language.
