Staff Data Engineer - Analytics Engineering

  • Nashville, Tennessee, United States
  • Full-time

THE CHALLENGE

Eventbrite has the world’s largest data repository of live events, powering millions of events and hundreds of millions of ticket transactions each year in 170+ countries. Our Data Engineering teams enable internal users as well as event creators and attendees to leverage our data assets in order to drive business growth. As we position Eventbrite for success over the next few years, it is critical that we partner with the Dev organization to build high quality data models as part of our product development and improve the data models of existing services.

THE TEAM

Our Analytics Engineering team members are Eventbrite’s resident data experts, working with functions across the company to understand how our data functions, both conceptually and technically. The team owns data marts and downstream transformations, and partners with other Data Engineering teams on ingestions and exports. The team is expanding to work with our data further upstream, partnering with engineering teams as we build new and revisit existing data models; this role would be at the forefront of that work.

THE ROLE

  • Embed with Engineering teams that are revisiting data models, and work with them to understand downstream usage of data to improve our ability to measure success of new feature functionality
  • Translating business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses
  • Define plan for User Tracking of Creators and Buyers on the Eventbrite platform, testing out POCs of potential solutions and working with Engineering teams to implement accepted solutions.
  • Collaborating and coordinating with multiple departments, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors, and working with those functions to level up their understanding of data and usage of data in their respective functions
  • Improve Data Governance practices, working with the team to better articulate our Data Lineage and enable other functions to easily discover trustworthy data sources. This will involve evaluation of third parties and in-house tools, as well as education to other functions around usage and philosophy of our data
  • Identify and describe relationships between data fields and how they are maintained in enterprise databases
  • Evaluating current databases and architecture to plan what changes, upgrades and improvements they need to make
  • Monitoring data sources in the data lake and setting up feedback systems to refine and constantly improve
  • Researching new techniques, software and products that could improve a company’s data-related functions
  • Represent Analytics Engineering at the Architectural Committee of Staff and Principal Engineers. This committee reviews all new proposed data models and discusses potential changes and evolutions to key services, as well as proposals for new microservices in efforts to reduce a core monolith.
  • Mentor Analytics Engineers to improve technical acumen and build a cohesive philosophy about how data should be used at Eventbrite

THE SKILL SET

  • 7+ years of experience in Software and/or Data Engineering, with a focus on understanding data requirements and translating those to Dev specifications
