Engineering Manager (DevOps) - Core Platform

THE CHALLENGE

Eventbrite's business continues to grow and scale rapidly, powering millions of events. Event creators and attendees need new tools and technologies that empower them to have the most meaningful live experiences. As an Engineering Manager, you will inspire, mentor, and develop the team that builds this global platform. 

THE TEAM

We work on foundational aspects key to making our Development teams successful. We are responsible for the efficiency of the software development lifecycle for our applications. This includes proposing and building new application architecture and building tooling to create a more pleasant developer experience while at the same time keeping our core systems up to date.

THE ROLE

As an Engineering Manager of Core Platform at Eventbrite, your focus will be around building new features and services to improve developers' velocity. You’ll not only help optimize our existing processes, but will more importantly work closely with our development teams to help build next generation services with full CI/CD and facilitate the Development, Testing, Deployment and Maintenance phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). You’ll be responsible for charting both short and long term direction of the team, and help continue driving full CI/CD automation as a core principle throughout our engineering organization at Eventbrite. You'll support the career growth of our engineers and provide them with opportunities to distinguish themselves as they drive impact throughout our organization.

YOU WILL

  • Lead a remote-first, cross-functional engineering team to deliver high-quality software in small, regular iterations.
  • Continuously aim to reduce cycle time and improve the efficiency of the team.
  • Ensure team members have the knowledge of the wider organisational context for their work, goals and outcomes.
  • Hold team members accountable for achieving their goals while operating with high levels of autonomy.
  • Lead the engineering team to validate the feasibility of projects and ideas while in continuous collaboration with cross-functional partners and other engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers to drive innovation in processes and strategies throughout the business pillar.
  • Facilitate the hiring and onboarding of engineers. Mentor and coach the engineers in the team.
  • Maintain regular communication with the leadership team.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, accountability and openness.

THE SKILLSET

  • Overall 8+ years experience in the industry with at least 3+ years experience in leading, managing and inspiring cross-functional, agile engineering teams in the Developer’s Experience and Developer’s Operations domains, and 4+ years of experience in the industry as an individual contributor.
  • Strong emphasis on CI/CD as an engineering discipline
  • A solid technical background with a passion for delivering high quality, maintainable software following lean/agile methodologies.
  • Comfortable participating in architectural discussions, asking informative questions, and assisting the team in making strategic trade-offs.
  • Experience working within a highly collaborative, remote-first environment, driving a team that ships code to production often.
  • The ability to recruit, onboard, grow and develop a globally-distributed engineering team.
  • Solid experience with build/deployment pipelines and tooling.
  • Experience in building and supporting infrastructure and services in public cloud environments like AWS
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent facilitation skills involving the whole team in group based decision making.
  • The ability to work proficiently in English.

  • Experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferred)
  • Experience with containers and containers security
  • Familiarity with Hashicorp’s products
